Theme:  Pizza Art!

Goal of session:  One idea arising from Brainstorming session was that food as 3-D art would be of interest to the class.  In today’s session students will create a unique pizza design using a standard Chef Boy Ar Dee Pizza kit and their imagination.  Resulting creations will then be taken home, baked and eaten.  Basic kitchen skills and cooking hygiene will also be followed in class along with care and manipulation of edible media.

Books and/or Materials:  Enough Chef Boy Ar Dee Pizza kits to supply 1 pizza per student.   Disposable pizza pans, (or students may bring pan from home).  Cloth table covering, Cooking oil, Extra flour, Assortment of Pizza toppings, Kraft Easy Cheese for embellishments, Plastic utensils, Wooden spoons, Saran Wrap and patience.

  • Class length = one hour.
  • Hands were washed prior to participation. 
  • Basic rule:  touch only your food and not your classmate’s. 
  • Pizzas were made following box directions. 
  • Instructor clarified instructions when necessary. 
  • Shape and theme of pizza was limited only by students imagination. 
  • Finished Pizzas were photographed, wrapped and sent home.
  • Baking instructions on kit followed at home.

Theme:  Buttons, Magnets and Brainstorming.

Goal of Session Or Activity:  To create original wearable buttons and usable magnets while brainstorming about future art projects and ideas.  The top 10 or more ideas will be put on a ballot that will will voted upon at the next class. (Writing session) There will also be a write in section for the people who missed this session or for new ideas.  Two examples of button/badges were given.  Collage and 2-D drawing of stylized name.  One example of a completed magnet was given.

Books and/or materials featured

  • Plastic make your own button badges were used. 
  • Expression of self identity was encouraged. 
  • Buttons could also be displayed as a small picture frame with an easel back.
  • Magnet kit included clear flattened glass marbles in two sizes.  Reverse painting on the glass produced the design before self stick magnets were applied. 
  • Class engaged in active discussion and brainstorming while doing artwork.  Instructor kept a list and tally of ideas  on chalkboard as they emerged and were scratched or approved.  Sample ballot was formulated by end of one hour class.
